Summer is just around the corner and that means fresh food from local farmers and vendors can be found at many Chicago area markets. Andersonville will officially open its farmer’s market today, May 9,  giving away a free tote to the first 100 customers who purchase items at the event.

The market will continue each week from 3 p.m. – 8 p.m. through  August 29 and 3 p,m -7 p.m. September 5 through October 17 on Berwyn Ave. between Clark and Ashland.

There are currently 31 different local farmers and producers this year. All items sold at the market are grown, raised or made within 200 miles.  The event is put on by the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce and according to them they place a premium on fresh, local food that is sustainably grown with an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients. You can also find many local businesses such as First Slice Pies, Phoenix Bean Tofu and Defloured Bakery at the market as well as local performers who entertain while you shop.

To get your free tote, bring purchased goods to the Chamber tent (on the south side of Berwyn near the alley) to claim your bag. The Chamber will hold 25 of the totes for the after-work crowd. For further information about the Andersonville Farmers Market or have questions about the entertainment, email market@andersonville.org.
