Andersonville Celebrates Earth Day Weekend With 4th Annual Flower And Garden Show

Though last weekend may make you question that Spring has arrived, this weekend’s fourth annual Andersonville Flower and Garden show will surely brighten your outlook.

This Saturday and Sunday, April 21-22, plants and flowers will decorate your favorite Andersonville shops. Organized by the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce, over 30 local businesses will showcase amazing florals and greenery.

“The Andersonville Flower and Garden Show is not your typical flower show and does not happen (to the best of my knowledge) in other neighborhoods,” said Andersonville Chamber of Commerce Community and Events Manager Laura Austin. “What makes it unique is we try to incorporate all of our sectors into this event but allowing for outside merchants to come in and pop-up in a participating location.”

According to the Chamber; expect to see some great arrangements at businesses including Andersonville’s new florist Foyer Shop (1480 W. Berwyn), a pop up by returning favorite Marguerite Gardens at Foursided (5061 N Clark), in-shop floral arrangements by Youth and Yarrow at Milk Handmade (5137 N Clark), A Pretty Flower in the lobby of The Guesthouse Hotel (4872 N Clark), and a plant sale with the Peterson Garden Project. There will also be Landscaping demos conducted by City Spaces Landscaping & Design (appearing at The Guesthouse Hotel both days), as well as Red Stem Native Landscaping at Women and Children First (5233 N Clark) on Saturday at 11 a.m.

This year, the show will coordinate with Earth Day (Sunday, April 22) weekend and the Chicago cleanup day (Saturday, April 21). Several area organizations will participate with environmental programming including the Edgewater Environmental Sustainability Project who will be hosting an Earth Day tree walking tour, both the Winona Foster Winnemac Carmen (WFWC) Block Club and the West Edgewater Andersonville Residents (WEAR) will host their Earth Day cleanup events, and the West Andersonville Neighbors Together (W.A.N.T.) will woodchip the path along Ravenswood between Berwyn and Balmoral.

“We hope to welcome spring with this event,” Austin added. “We want participants to come out and shop, talk to their fellow neighbors and business owners and help beautify the streets of Andersonville. While we aren’t certain if winter coats can be put away just yet at least we can take in a little spring traversing Andersonville and spreading sunshine with warm smiles.”

In order to help guide attendees during the Flower and Garden Show, numbered garden gnomes will highlight participating locations. For more info on the FREE event, go to andersonville.org.
