A young boy who was attacked by a mob after trying to stop them from stealing a friends bike was gruesomely beaten last May. Now charges have been filed against three of them including an 18-year-old Edgewater teen.

The attack happened on the Lane Tech school grounds on May 26th. Police responded to a group of about 40 boys fighting in a grassy area at 2501 West Addison. When the crowd dispersed, a 15-year-old teen was spotted lying unconscious. A video of the attack eventually surfaced showing the horrific scene.

The 15-year-old was taken to Lurie Children’s Hospital in serious condition with fractured bones in his face, a broken nose, chipped teeth, and significant bruising according to reporting by CWBChicago.com.

Last Friday, police finally arrested three of the suspects in connection with the incident. One of them is 18-year-old Nolan John of Edgewater. John is said to have kicked the victim several times on the ground and is charged with one felony count of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm. Court records show that John is a currently a student at Northeastern University. Bail was set at $25,000 by Judge Mary Marubio.

Two juveniles, a 17-year-old and a 14-year-old, were each also charged in the case with one felony count of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm.

The victims friends started a GoFundMe in order to help the family on May 31, 2018. The $1550 goal has already raised $6000. According to the page all proceeds will ‘help the victim and his family move forward and assist with the burden of his medical bills.’
