After 13 years in Andersonville, La Donna moving to Rogers Park

Crain’s Chicago reports that the owner of upscale Italian eatery La Donna, Antonella Barbanente, is selling her restaurant and moving about 2 miles north to Rogers Park. La Donna will be missed as it is considered a pioneer for playing an integral role in transforming Andersonville’s popular Clark and Foster intersection into the increasingly affluent shopping strip that it is today. The owner says the area has gotten too congested with other businesses, but don’t feel sorry for her as she is likely to reap the rewards and cash in on the dramatic rise in real estate prices in the area. The transaction is expected to close next month, but there is no word on future plans for the space.

10/2/08 UPDATE:

David Tamarkin of Time Out Chicago is also reporting that Hopleaf is in negotiations to take over and expand into the space currently occupied by La Donna. Also, La Donna’s new location will be 6340 N Clark, and they expect to be open in mid-November.
