Baker And Nosh May Need To ‘Pull The Plug’ On Their New Edgewater Cafe

The expected opening of the new Baker and Nosh at 5600 N. Ridge has been one of the most anticipated events in Edgewater. However, after delays in the new cafe’s schedule has forced the business to delay their arrival, it seems as though the financing the owners were counting on has fell through.

Owners Bill Millholland and Terry Groff expressed their sorrow at the fateful decision to close their original cafe at 1303 W. Wilson Ave. before making the final move down the street to 4600 N. Magnolia Ave. where construction has since stopped. One week after closing the Wilson location, their financing fell through.

Millholland and Groff complained about the ‘unavoidable and frustrating delays’ at the end of last March. But with few options left for finding the financing, both the new Baker and Nosh on Magnolia Ave. in Uptown and the new Edgewater Baker and Nosh on Ridge may never happen.

“We have been tirelessly seeking alternative sources to fund the projects, but have at this point come up empty handed,” Millholland and Groff said in a letter published on their Facebook page.  “At this time, we are unsure if we will be able to reopen and  if so, in what capacity.”

The new Edgewater store would have expanded the size of the cafe and what they could offer their customers. It was last expected to open this summer.

“While we are still working to make this happen, we have also exhausted most avenues that we know of for funding,” Millholland and Groff continued.  “That being said, at some point, as business owners, we have to decide when it is time to pull the plug. Unfortunately, the time to make a decision is coming up very quickly.”
