The numbers are alarming as the World Economic Forum’s 2017 Global Gender Gap Report paints a stark picture for gender parity. According to the findings, it will be another 200 years before we globally close the gap for women’s equality and equal pay.

However, women remain motivated to make change happen quicker. With International Women’s Day on March 8, Edgewater will celebrate with the International Dinner Crawl which will put a spotlight on local women-led restaurants offering cuisines from around the world.

The dinner crawl will serve up samples from nearly 40 business throughout the neighborhood from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. There will be two routes to choose from- a North Route with 12 stops and a South Route with 13 stops. The event is organized by the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce and participants can expect an array of different ethnic options.

The event will also focus on our community’s diverse immigrant population. According to census figures from the American Community Survey, immigrants make up 29% of Edgewater’s residents. Proceeds from the evening will benefit Apna Ghar, a local organization that provides holistic services and conducts advocacy across immigrant communities to end gender violence.
