Suspect Arrested After Edgewater Shooting Leaves Teen In Serious Condition

A teenager that has had no prior issues with Chicago Police was shot on Sunday evening while walking along an Edgewater Beach sidewalk. After a short search a suspect has been arrested and charged in the shooting.
The incident happened around 9:50 p.m., Feb. 2 on the 1000 block of Berwyn near the Red Line station. The 17-year-old victim, who has has no prior criminal history, was walking along the sidewalk when a Hispanic man stopped him, shouted a gang slogan and began firing at him. The suspect, identified as a Hispanic male wearing all black, then fled westbound on Berwyn.
The teenage victim was shot once in the leg and was transported to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in serious condition. He is expected to recover from his injuries.
According to Ald. Harry Osterman, a gun was recovered at the scene and after a short search an arrest was made today in connection with the shooting. The individual was charged with aggravated battery and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
