Trumbull School Development Runs Into Another Roadblock

trumbull2The project to redevelop the historic Trumbull School, has has once again been delayed. The developers have run into yet another roadblock with no solution yet in place.

When Svigos was selected to covert the school into a condo and theatre complex back in 2015, their plans were put on hold after Timeline Theatre backed out of a deal to occupy the first floor of the building in September, 2016. Timeline cited an ‘inherent conflict between what renovations are allowed in order to meet the requirements related to the developer’s tax credits.’

Then last November, it was announced that Svigos wanted to incorporate into their contract with the Board Of Education the possibility of a private non-charter school in the space. But the Board seems to be opposed to the change as they are unwilling to take up the issue.

“Based on a conference call that I had last week, the Board of Education is looking for Svigos, the contract purchaser, to close on the building with the condo and theater use restriction,” said Alderman Patrick O’Connor in a statement. “Svigos has indicated that there may not be enough profit in the project with the current restrictions.”

The Alderman added that Svigos is working on designs and different options to make the project more viable from their perspective.
