Tokyo Marina Closed, Modern Luxury Condos To Be Built

5058ClarkAfter 35 years in business, Tokyo Marina which was located at 5058 N. Clark Street has closed its doors. The popular sushi restaurant was a staple for many in the area and those residents were very disappointed to see them go.  Best known for things such as inventive maki rolls and real ramen, many did not realize that the business has existed since 1980. Unfortunately after months of not knowing their fate, the owners learned last month that the building was to be demolished.

The one story, plain looking building that housed the long-standing business will give rise to a new modern luxury four story complex. the glass and brick structure will be built by local Chicago group Hirsch and Associates. The style is consistent with the buildings they have previously designed or proposed which include high rises to residential homes.

According to the architecture plans, we can expect it to see six condos that include two and three bedrooms. Every unit will be approximately 1,500 square feet, have two bathrooms and contain all luxury fittings. The ground floor will have 3,147 square feet of retail space that can accommodate up to two businesses.

There has been no word as to whether the old Tokyo Marina will live on in the new retail space, but some rumors have a new high end sushi restaurant as a possibility. The rendering supplied shows one of the businesses being Rolls And Bowls which is a Japanese restaurant on Lincoln Avenue. Could they be opening a second location?
