Recent Rash of Crimes Around Berwyn CTA Station Will Be Focused On At Community Meeting

A recent series of crimes around the the Berwyn red-line CTA station will be a focus at a community meeting held by Alderman Harry Osterman and Commander Sean Loughran.

Alderman Osterman announced the meeting in an email saying that they will discuss ways residents, business owners, and the police can work together to improve the safety in our community. It will be held tomorrow, April 17 at Epworth Church (5253 N Kenmore) at 6:30 p.m.

The meeting comes after EVB reported a robbery at Kitchen Sink, 1107 W. Berwyn, several days ago. No one was hurt in the incident, but the man (who claimed he was armed) walked away with the cash in the register. Security footage caught the man in the act but he has yet to be identified.

Other reports of gunshots and gang activity have been reported by area residents. This includes an incident where an area teenager was shot March 9 on the 5200 block on N. Winthrop in Edgewater. According to a statement from Alderman Osterman, the boy was a victim of a robbery.

The Alderman added that he will hold a follow up public safety meeting in May as well to outline additional community and police plans for a safe summer.
