Capitalizing on the success of their Andersonville eatery at 5507 N. Clark, True North Cafe will be bringing their fresh take on quick, healthy food to the South side.

The new location which will take over the Z & H Market Cafe, 1323 E. 57th in Hyde Park, will become True North co-owners Andy Peters and Scott Dicker’s second location within the next couple of weeks.

Peters and Dicker learned about the opportunity to purchase Z & H Market Cafe March 1. According to a Hyde Park Herald story, they are planning to keep the menu much the same as it was with the exception of making them with “higher quality and healthier ingredients.” They will also be expanding the coffee menu with Metropolis Coffee, including more experimental latte and tea options and adding a smoothie bar.

Opening in Andersonville two years ago, TrueNorth cafe has focused on a cafe serving quick, healthy meals in addition to a retail store selling health-related goods such as vitamins. They want the cafe to be a “good livin’ joint” where customers can get great coffee and nutritious meals without the airs that usually accompany healthy eating.

Peters told EVB that True North’s menu is simple, nutritious and most importantly delicious. They are known for many healthy, vegan, and gluten-free options on their menu.

Peters, who graduated from the University of Chicago in 2010, said he has dreamed of opening a cafe in the Hyde Park area for some time. Z & H Market’s cafe is expected to remain open during the transition.
