New Apartments And Retail Space Replace Old Warehouse On Broadway

5427Broadway-1 Brand new apartments are now available for rent at Broadway Place, an old warehouse that has been gutted and rehabbed in Edgewater.

According to 48th Ald. Harry Osterman’s website, what was formerly known as the Pepitone and Zengler Laundry building, 5427-35 N. Broadway, will now house 42 apartments ranging in size, from one bedroom and a den, to three bedrooms.

Bill Gold purchased the buildings in December 2012, the website said. Pepitone’s restaurant closed after a fire in 2008.

“This is an exciting development for Broadway and will bring more people and more quality commercial to the street,” Osterman said on his website.

The units range from 1,000 square feet for the one-bedroom and 1,345 square feet for the three-bedroom. Every unit will have two full bathrooms. Rents will range from $1,645 per month to $2,490 per month.

According to Maurice Ortiz, director of operations for Apartment People, everything in the building is new. Retail and a day care are on the ground level, and a gym is still pending. Other features and amenities include a roof deck and a courtyard. The building is shaped like an L, with the courtyard in the middle along with a dog yard and dog washing station. Management is currently attempting to bring in a dog groomer.

Property management of Broadway Place is currently finishing off the entryway and plans on holding open houses on the weekends of June 20-21 and 27-28.
