Man Charged With Felony After Raising A Gun At Police Friday Night

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. in the 5200 block of N. Winthrop Ave. in Edgewater. Authorities were called about two men that were suspected of drinking in the alley.

When police arrived at the scene the suspects began to run. During the chase, one of the officers saw that 23-year-old Englewood resident Eric Guedes was holding a gun.

According to CPD, when the officer told Guedes to drop the weapon, he instead turned around and raised the gun. That action caused police to fire once at the suspect which missed him.

Police were able to take Guedes into custody without injury but the other suspect was not located. The weapon that was in his possession was also recovered at the scene.

Guedes appeared in court on Saturday and is charged with a felony count of unauthorized use of a weapon. He was released on bond later that day and is expected to return to court on Oct. 5.
