An man is being charged with felony robbery after he attacked and robbed a woman in Edgewater after she refused to let him use her cell phone last Thursday.
The man approached the 20-year-old victim around 11:30 p.m. on the 6100 block of N. Clark and asked if he could use her phone. When she refused, 44-year-old Alex Diamond struck her several times in the face, kicked her and threw her to the ground. He then stole her phone and walked away.
A nearby bystander saw the incident and alerted police to the situation. Soon after, authorities spotted Diamond walking on the 5700 block of N. Clark and detained him. The victim was able to identify him as the attacker and the cell phone he was carrying belonged to the woman. In addition, police body cameras captured Diamond admitting to the crime saying, “I took her phone because she wouldn’t let me use it.”
Diamond is charged with felony robbery and his bail was set at $10,000. He will also need to be placed on electronic monitoring once posting 10% deposit bond of his bail.
