Elderly Woman Kicked In Face On Red Line Train Near Bryn Mawr

A 79-year-old woman was assaulted on a red line train near the Bryn Mawr station on January 13. The attacker exited the train at Bryn Mawr and was apprehended by police soon after.

The incident, which happened around 11:15 a.m. that Sunday morning, was witnessed by several passengers who said that 34-year-old Englewood resident Jerrel Turner grabbed an overhead handrail and swung her body eventually striking the victim in the head with her foot.

Turner, who identifies as female, quickly exited the train when the it stopped at the Bryn Mawr station. However, a fellow passenger followed her until police apprehended the suspect.

Two witnesses were able to confirm the situation to responding officers and said the attack was unprovoked. The victim later identified Turner as her attacker.

Police records show that the elderly woman, who is from Rogers Park, received blunt trauma to her forehead and was taken to Weiss Hospital where she was treated for injuries.

Turner faces felony aggravated battery of a victim over the age of 60. A $10,000 Bail was set by Judge Stephanie Miller.
