CPD Releases Video Of Violent Attack At Edgewater Jewel

Video Still Of Suspect

Chicago Police have released video of a violent attack that took place at the Edgewater Jewel late last month. They are seeking the public’s help in hopes of identifying the suspect.

The incident occurred around 11 a.m. on July 22 at the Jewel-Osco located at 5343 N. Broadway. The surveillance footage shows a masked man checking out at the registers. He then exits the store and lingers just outside the doors. Sometime thereafter, an elderly man also exits the store through the same door.

There is a short verbal exchange between the men which results in the suspect striking the victim on the head with an unknown blunt object. The man falls to the ground in front of other customers while the suspect flees the area.

Authorities describe the suspect as a Hispanic man standing 5’7” – 5’9” tall and appears to have longer black hair. In the video he is wearing a black Nike shirt, sunglasses and a dark blue bandana over his face. Police made special note about a tattoo on his upper right arm.

Unfortunately there was no other information given including the condition of the victim.

Anyone with information about the attack should call Detective Stevens at 312-744-8261 regarding case JD-306012.
