Chicago Bears Player To Help Kick Off Care For Real’s 2017 Toy Drive

There are many things this Holiday season that bring us great joy in our community, and the annual Care For Real Toy Drive is most definitely one of them. To make it even better, one of the beloved Chicago Bear players has signed on to help kick-off the event.

Nick Kwiatkoski who is a linebacker for the Chicago Bears will be helping with the drive this year at a special toy collection on Monday, Dec. 4 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Toys Et Cetera in Andersonville. People donating new, unwrapped toys at the event will be able to meet and take a photo with Kwiatkoski.

“He (Kwiatkoski) was looking for an impactful, grassroots organization that gave back to the community in a big way.   With such limited resources, Care for Real is very thankful to have been selected as the charitable partner,” said Lyle Allen Executive Director for Care for Real. “Nick brings so much enthusiasm and support to Care for Real.  His presence will help kick off our Annual Toy Drive and bring the attention we truly couldn’t have done on our own.”

Care For real, Edgewater’s local pantry helping area residents in need, has been serving the area for 47 years now and the toy drive is one of the cornerstones of the program. This year, 800 local children are expected to benefit from the program allowing them the opportunity to have the best Holiday possible.

“There is nothing like looking into the eyes of parents who are so grateful for having have the comfort of knowing their child will have a great holiday – just like every other kid,” Lyle added.  “Our community truly inspires me to ensure Care for Real continues to be the foundation of support that is so loved and respected.  Every day I’m able to go home and know that we made a difference in someone’s life.”

If you are unable to make the event Monday, Care For Real will still be collecting toys through December 18.  Donors can drop off new, unwrapped toys at the Care for Real office at 5339 N. Sheridan Rd. They are open Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Saturdays 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Care For Real would also like to remind everyone not to forget local teenagers. Kids 12 and up make up about 35% of their child clientele. Best items for them would be gift cards (Target, Best Buy, Amazon), gift certificates, movie passes, tickets to events, etc.
