Another long-awaited Andersonville business is set to open this spring; the new Goddess and Grocer at 5318 N. Clark has been in the works since last August.

According to the company’s Marketing Manager, Kate Korte, the quick-serve food, catering and grocery business will have a soft opening for their fifth location on Saturday, May 14 from 7 a.m-9 p.m. All proceeds that day will benefit Howard Brown Health Center.

The restaurant, founded by Australian Debbie Sharpe, will occupy 1,600 square feet (in addition to patio space) in what had been Einstein Bros. Bagels. The bagel company closed its N. Clark Street location in February, 2015 due to poor performance.

The Goddess and Grocer’s new Andersonville location will have seating for 24, in addition to a back patio that seats an additional 30.

The Goddess and Grocer will serve deli sandwiches made to order, ready-made salads, a fresh salad bar, prepared foods, artisanal cheeses, and a selection of groceries. They will also offer their signature catering services.

According to the company website, Sharpe’s food career took off after starting her own catering company, eventually working for Paul and Linda McCartney. In 1990, while on a U.S. tour with the McCartneys, Sharpe decided to put down roots in Chicago.

Since then, she has continued to cater for entertainers, including Justin Timberlake, Paul Simon, The Grateful Dead, Phish, Jay-Z and Sting. Sharpe now owns The Goddess Restaurant Group. This includes The Goddess Rocks! (catering focusing on local concert tours and festivals, including, most recently, Lollapalooza), current Goddess and Grocer stores (in Bucktown, Elston, River North and O’Hare International Airport), and Feast restaurant in Bucktown.
