Andersonville Chamber Of Commerce’s Executive Director Ellen Shepard To Step Down

EllenSince 2000, Andersonville has flourished into the new century with its own unique style. As many neighborhoods lost their charm to corporate stores, Andersonville held firm to the spirit of local small business. A large part of that success is due to the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce’s Executive Director, Ellen Shepard.

Today it was announced that Shepard will be leaving her position after 16 years of service to the neighborhood. Her last day will be in early March, 2016.

Under Shepard’s leadership through the years, the strategy of promoting small business and supporting local establishments became the norm. With that, the neighborhood developed strength in the local business movement and still receives national attention through ongoing media reports and word-of-mouth. Shepard also championed environmental sustainability by spearheading many programs in the community.

In a heartfelt letter addressed to local businesses and friends, Andersonville Chamber board president Greg Katzman said,”Sixteen years ago, the Chamber was a one-person operation with Midsommarfest, holiday events, and a print neighborhood guide. Ellen spearheaded the growth of Chamber programs and the creation of the Andersonville Development Corporation and Andersonville SSA #22. Now we host over a dozen special events each year, renowned environmental sustainability programs, sidewalk cleaning and snowplowing, and a host of other initiatives that helped lead to Redfin naming us the #7 best neighborhood in the country!”

Katzman added that the search for Ellen’s replacement will begin soon and they will keep the community informed on the process.

EVB will provide further details as information becomes available.
