Locally Brewed Scandinavian-Inspired Beer Released To Help Raise Water Tower Funds

Vattentorn-1

Making Vattentorn

When it comes to giving, most Andersonville businesses work hard to support local charities and causes. When the area’s iconic water tower fell victim to one of Chicago’s harsh winters a couple years back and needed to be taken down, the neighborhood banded together like never before.

Since then, Andersonville has found many unique ways of raising additional funding so that the tower replica can be constructed and raised once again above the Swedish American Museum. Andersonville Brewing Company at 5402 N. Clark St, which is owned by the same people who run Hamburger Mary’s next door, have found their own contribution. They will be releasing a Scandinavian-Inspired seasonal beer, and the proceeds will benefit the water tower fund.

The Baltic Porter style lager that Andersonville brewing company will be making is called Vattentorn, which means ‘water tower’ in Swedish. According to Andersonville Brewing Company, the beer is not very common in the United States. Its origins are from countries bordering the Baltic Sea such as Sweden. Unlike the brew’s English porter cousin, it is more fortified and higher in alcohol.

This will not be the first time Andersonville Brewing Company  has released the beer. When the water tower fund was started back in 2014, the beer made its debut for the first time. With the beer’s success, they raised $1000 for the fund. Now, as the Swedish American Museum is nearing their goal for donations, the beer proudly makes its second appearance in the area.

Vattentorn will be available only at Andersonville Brewing and Hamburger Mary’s.  $1 from each glass sold will once again be donated to the Swedish American Museum for the water tower restoration efforts.
