Since 1993, Uptown Bikes has been a trusted name for resident’s bicycle needs. Located at 4653 N. Broadway Ave, the store’s website proudly boasts that they are women-owned and managed.

In an email put out today by Alderman Harry Osterman, he announced a new partnership between the bike shop, Uptown United and his office in which Uptown Bikes will open a second pop-up shop location at 1124 W. Argyle St. in the 48th Ward on May 19, 2016.

The new shop, which will be located in a vacant CTA concession space under the red line, will offer repairs by an experienced bicycle mechanic, including “while-you-wait” services such as Flat Fix and Air & Oil. It will also be a drop-off and pick-up site for bicycles needing more significant repairs, which will be done at their Broadway location.

In the statement, Alderman Osterman said, “I’m thrilled to share the exciting news. Uptown Bikes, a wonderful local business that has had a presence on Broadway since 1993, will open a pop-up shop on May 19, as we prepare for the completion of the Argyle Shared Streetscape project this summer.”

He hopes that the pop-up shop will add increased foot traffic to Argyle, thus helping the street move forward.

The Alderman added, “I’m grateful to be working alongside Uptown United, Uptown’s economic development agency, as we continue to look for new and innovative ways to make Argyle an attractive destination for businesses, customers and visitors alike.

The pop-up bike shop will be open Thursdays 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. (extended hours will coincide with the Argyle Night Market, launching July 7, 2016); Fridays 11:00am – 7 p.m.; Saturdays 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.; and Sundays 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. More at uptownbikes.org
