Mythos Head Chef Gets Ready To Open Authentic Greek Eatery In Andersonville

Got a craving for authentic gyros? A new restaurant is getting ready to open its doors on the Andersonville strip and will serve up traditional Greek food.

Co-owner and head chef from Mythos at 2030 W Montrose, Vicky Zervas, is spreading her wings and opening her own restaurant named It’s Greek 2 U at 5449 N. Clark in the heart of Andersonville. It will be a quick-service eatery where customers can order their selections at the counter and have them delivered to their table when ready.

Zervas, who has garnered a loyal fanbase at Mythos, will serve up her special gyros and unique take on kabobs. On the weekends she will offer unique specials that you cannot find on the menu, serving up both lunch and dinner.

“We will have great, authentic Greek street food,” said Zervas. “Everything is homemade on the premises from tradition, nothing is frozen. Just good food.”

The building was completely gutted by its new owners who not only renovated the ground floor retail space, but also the upstairs apartments. The open floor plan will sit about 46 in the 750 sq. ft. exposed-brick dining room. For the summer months, there is a patio out back and the front windows open out to the street. Currently the restaurant is BYOB, though there are plans to explore a liquor license

When the landlords of 5449 N. Clark were looking for a new retail business for the first floor of their building, a real estate agent showed Zervas the property. They were surprised when she walked through the door because they are regulars at Mythos. From that moment, both parties realized it was meant to be.

“I really like Andersonville, it reminds me a little bit of Europe,” Zervas said. “Everywhere you go in Europe, the streets are lined with local restaurants, stores and cafes with people walking up and down. This is what happens in Greece. I brought my 87-year-old mother down (to Andersonville) and she never thought that Chicago would have a neighborhood like this.”

It’s Greek 2 U is expected to open mid-February.
