Famous Fido Moving to a Larger New Location

Famous Fido, an animal rescue sanctuary, is moving from 5430 N. Clark, its home for the last 10 years, to 3124 W. Irving Park. The move will likely take place in September, pending zoning and funding.

“We love Andersonville, and all the support we get from Andersonville,” said Gloria Lissner, the sanctuary’s owner and founder. But Famous Fido simply couldn’t find a space that met its zoning, rent, and size needs in the Andersonville/Edgewater area.

Lissner said she’s looking forward to the possibilities that the sanctuary’s new space holds, including the ability to be able to take care of more animals. The new facility will have a feline room so cats will be able to roam freely instead of having to be caged, and a re-homing expert who will help people find solutions so that they won’t have to give up their pets. It will also provide space for pet care seminars, advocate for animals’ needs, and educate pet owners.

Famous Fido specializes in animals that are a little less popular for adoption because they’re a bit older, have health problems or special needs, or who are pair-bonded with another animal. Squirt, for example, is 4-5 years old but is partially blind. Although that doesn’t affect Squirt’s health or needs, it sadly makes him a little less popular. Likewise, Ted, a cat who is around 4 years old, has been up for adoption for several months.

Famous Fido needs people to post pictures of animals on adoption websites. It needs help taking care of cats and dogs at its current location. It could use some construction assistance at its new location. It also has fundraisers. Recently it auctioned off a singed Blackhawks stick on Facebook.
