Edgewater Theaters Sell Over 51,000 Tickets In 2016, Panel Discussion Created To Talk About Local Impact

theatre-2Edgewater has become a vibrant community focused on the arts. With many companies choosing the area as their home, the storefront theater scene here has evolved into 22 different stages throughout the neighborhood.

According to a press release put out by Kate Piatt-Eckert, Theatre District Chair and Executive Director of Steep Theatre, last year was a healthy year for the arts in Edgewater. In 2016, the Edgewater Theatre District saw over 51,000 tickets to approximately 1,550 performances by 18 Edgewater theaters, which featured the work of over 1,300 theatre artists. In 2017, over 1,600 performances are expected.

“With over twenty theatre companies based in Edgewater, the neighborhood is a hotbed for the kind of theatre that’s put Chicago on the map,” said Piatt-Eckert. “From theatre for young audiences to literary adaptations to edgy contemporary drama, the Edgewater Theatre District has something for everyone.”

In order to continue the discussion on the impact theatre has in the Edgewater community, a panel discussion is going to be held on April 26, 2017. The event which is co-hosted by the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce and the Edgewater Theatre District, will be held at Hopleaf (5148 N. Clark) from 7 p.m-9 p.m. It is a free event, but reservations are strongly encouraged.

Panelists will include Jerry Goodman (Assistant to the Alderman, 48th Ward), Mary Beck (Principal, Nicholas Senn High School), Michael Roper (Owner, Hopleaf), and Stephanie Sullivan (Realtor)
