Edgewater Street Sweeping Starts Next Week, Alert System Could Help You Avoid Tickets

no-parking-1It’s no April fool, street sweeping starts April 1, 2017 in Chicago. Specifically in the 48th Ward, it begins next week on April 3.

Temporary parking restrictions will be posted the day before the work is scheduled to begin on any street to ensure curb-to-curb cleaning. However, some arterial streets have permanently posted signs that specify a once-per-week period when parking is prohibited for street sweeping.

The first streets effected are located within Edgewater section five on April 3 and 4. Section five consists of East/West Boundary is Broadway (1200) – Ridge (1600) and North/South Boundary Balmoral (5400) – Foster (5200).

According to the City of Chicago, they will issue $50 street sweeping tickets to every car parked on streets subject to cleaning from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on listed days. Furthermore, all parked cars are also subject to towing and additional fines.

However, a third-party street sweeping alert system with a searchable calendar is available to help you remember those days and avoid tickets. Go to sweeparound.us and enter your address. Once there, you can enter your email address or cell number to get alerts.

It is important to note that this is a tentative schedule which can change due to weather related emergencies, equipment failures, etc.  It is advised to verify listed dates by contacting the 48th Ward Streets and Sanitation Office at 312-744-2130.
