Edgewater Pizzeria Suddenly Closes Saying Employees Made The Final Decision

Running a small business is a daunting task on a daily basis that requires its owners to manage a multitude of responsibilities from finances to quality control. Unfortunately VeRanda Pizzeria and Coffee at 1100 W. Thorndale had to close its doors last week and said the employees made the ultimate decision.

After closing her first Edgewater restaurant Apart Pizza, Bianca Ganvik was able to open a new dining spot just up the street. VeRanda offered her customers a bigger space with a larger dining room and outside patio. But after two years in business, that restaurant too suddenly shuttered.

Many customers who booked events at the restaurant heard about the closing from friends and were never contacted by the management. Instead, the abrupt decision to close last week was posted on a small sheet left on the door. There was no further information about the decision on their website or social media.

The post on the door began (note this is exact wording, punctuation and capitalization and not an error in the story), “It is with Great that we have to extend this notice however, the EMPLOYEES here, have made the final decision to CLOSE these doors.”

It continued to read that they are “reorganizing for other possibilities” that will include their thin crust pizza. It did not say where they would be going or give any time table for that to occur.

The letter concluded by announcing that VeRanda’s hours will fluctuate because of the decision to shutter, however readers report that they have not reopened their doors since and Yelp reports them as permanently closed.

An email address was included at the bottom in order to contact them, however management did not respond to EVB’s attempts to reach them.
