A 28-year-old Edgewater resident was found lying in an alley by Chicago police around 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning after they responded to reports of gunfire in the area.

The man was taken from the scene at 2400 block of W Devon Ave in West Ridge and was transported in critical condition to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston.

Three hours later at 7:43 a.m., the man was pronounced dead by Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his back.

The victim has been identified as area resident Abimbola Sheleru of 6100 block of N Hermitage Ave.

There have been no reports of arrests made in the shooting or if it was gang-related.
