Booming South Andersonville Could See New Large-Scale Development Soon

The South end of Andersonville is seeing steady growth in new real estate, restaurants and businesses. A new 54-unit rental building that has recently been proposed could help anchor the area.

The site at 4906 N. Clark, is located on the northwest corner of Ainslie and Clark (which is considered to be the southern point of Andersonville), has just gotten approval from the Winona Foster Carmen Winnemac (WFCW) Block Club. The large development would extend from Ainslie to Argyle, and be built on property currently occupied by Africa Auto Repair and Body Shop, High Point Auto Service and a vacant lot.

According to WFCW; the building’s 54 rental units will consist of three studios, 36 one-bedroom units, and 15 two-bedrooms that will range in size from 484 sq ft – 1193 sq ft. Rents are expected to range from $1400-$2600. Axios Architects and Consultants  at 188 N. Wells in Chicago designed the property.

The 55,201 sq ft structure will include 7,711 sq ft on the ground level which will house commercial space. The first floor currently also has 29 parking spaces, 27 bike storage spaces and a loading dock.

If the building is approved by the city, the project could start Spring 2018.
