The 48th Ward Back to School program, which expects 300+ attendees this year, will take place this Wednesday and provide kids with live entertainment, activities and free school supplies to help get their first day of classes off to a great start.

The event will take place this Wednesday, August 28 in front of Senn High School (5900 N. Glenwood) from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. The event is sponsored by Ald. Harry Osterman, State Rep. Kelly Cassidy, State Sen. Heather Steans, Comcast and People’s Gas in partnership with several area schools.

All kids are welcome to participate at the free event. Those who attend will receive a bag full of school supplies including notebooks, folders, pencils and pens that were donated by various organizations and area residents.

They are planning a multitude of activities and entertainment for children during the evening. There will be live performances by CircEsteem and School of Rock Chicago. Edgewater’s newly elected Pet Mayor Pax The Goat will also be on hand to give the kids a fun motivational boost. Activities will include face painting, games, balloon animals, complimentary haircuts by Orlando Salon and much more.

“This is not only a way for kids to get free school supplies so they feel prepared and ready for the first day of school, but also an opportunity to build relationships with other people in the community,” said the 48th Ward Office’sĀ Alan Oviedo. “There will be a number of community partners there as well so that parents can learn about their programs and the positive impact they have on Chicago’s youth.”
