Chipotle And PetSmart To Anchor New Foster/Broadway Strip Mall

StripMallBack in March we broke the story that the old Piser Funeral Home space at 5206 North Broadway which was vacant for ten years was to be demolished to make way for a new strip mall along the vast tract of land. We also were the first to let everyone know that Chipotle was to be a possible future tenant. Well our sources proved correct.

Now the developers, Chody Real Estate Corp., have let us know that the Mexican fast food giant will in fact take over a 2,200 sf space on the South end cap of  the complex. It will also include an outdoor eating area for people who prefer patio dining. There has been mixed reactions in the community about the corporate food chain’s presence in the area.

Also, according to Alderman Harry Osterman, PetSmart will take up most, if not all of the remaining space of the 8,000sf South building. Petco’s small concept store, Unleashed, just opened a year ago in the strip mall across the street (which is also owned by Chody Real Estate Corp.). Petsmart’s arrival into the area is most likely a response to their rival’s expansion. However, small independent stores such as Jameson Loves Danger on Clark and the new Ruff Haus on Granville plan to give the big guys a run for their money as they seek out specialized consumers looking for a more personal experience.

Once the new strip mall complex is complete it will take up around 20,000 sf. The  project is supposedly designed to be low impact on the surrounding community, and will work well with current traffic patterns. Expect a ground breaking for construction very soon.
