Baker And Nosh Owners Talk About New Edgewater Location And Projected Opening

baker_nosh-3Word spread like wildfire this past Tuesday as it was leaked that Baker and Nosh had signed a lease for the storefront space at 5600 N. Ridge Ave. The high-profile corner, which is located where Ridge, Broadway and Bryn Mawr avenues all meet, has been vacant since the old El Norte restaurant left in 2012. In the past year, the building has transformed with a reported $800,000 renovation.

With residents excited about Baker and Nosh’s arrival, some details still remained unclear. To help answer some of the questions, owners Bill Millholland and Terry Groff took the time to speak with EVB about the venture.

Firstly, their Ridge Avenue storefront will in fact be a second location. So, don’t fret Uptowners — the 1303 W. Wilson Ave. restaurant will still be serving up your favorite homemade breads, soups, sandwiches and pastries.

The upcoming Edgewater location is still in the planning stages, but we were told to expect a considerably larger space, offering new menu items as well as an expanded experience. The owners are hoping for a late spring opening. Outdoor seating has yet to be confirmed.

Millholland said, “More than anything, we want to bring a place to the neighborhood that they can call their own. We are very active in community events and hope to create a few ourselves, as we have done in Uptown.”

Millholland and Groff are very enthusiastic about opening in our community. They remember when they were searching for a space to open the first Baker and Nosh in 2011. They looked at locations in Uptown, Edgewater and Andersonville.

“We wanted to open a neighborhood bakery that was in, or close to, our own neighborhood,” said Millholland. “We looked at several spots in Edgewater in 2011, and both can distinctly remember walking along Bryn Mawr, thinking this building (5600 Ridge or, at the time, El Norte) would make an awesome location.  Little did we know that five years later we would be here!”
