Have you ever had a cup of Metropolis Coffee at a farmers market or other venue and wondered what was so special about it? Or if you are a tofu fan, have you seen Phoenix Bean Tofu at any number of grocery stores like Mariano’s or Whole Foods and wondered what was behind that company?

These are only a couple of the businesses about which you can learn at the Small Business Growth Panel hosted by the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, May 10 at 8 a.m. at Galvin Auditorium at Loyola University.

“The event is open to small business owners and to the public,” says executive director Katrina Balog of the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce. The panel which includes Jenny Yang of Phoenix Bean Tofu and Tony Dreyfus of Metropolis Coffee will be moderated by Steve Bertrand of WGN Radio. “Residents can meet the people behind the businesses they have come to know,” says Katrina Balog. “They can learn the stories behind the businesses, learn the business models of these business owners and get ideas for starting their own businesses.”

“This is the second year of the panel,” Balog says. “Last year it was held at Revival Social Club which was new at that time. It was so well received that we felt we needed more space which is why it is being held at Loyola’s Galvin Auditorium. “We asked Jenny Yang and Tony Dreyfus to come back because their businesses have expanded so much.”

Breakfast will be provided by Whole Foods and Metropolis Coffee.

Tickets for Chamber members are $15 and $20 for non-members. There is a nominal fee for online purchases. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit Edgewater.org.

Tickets may also be purchased on the day of the event.
