There were no injuries from a fire that broke out around 3:15 a.m. this morning in Edgewater. The blaze sent fire trucks and ambulances racing to the twelve story Shore Manor high-rise at the 5800 block of Sheridan Rd.

The fire started in a third floor apartment but was quickly put out. It caused so much heavy smoke that both the third and fourth floors were evacuated. As of 4 a.m. the fire was extinguished.

In a CBS local story, resident Morgan Toms told them. “We had to cut across to the back stairwell, and there was a bunch of firemen coming up the stairwell there, and they kind of led us out, right before they busted one of the windows on the 3rd floor. My boyfriend and I grabbed our dog, and our wallets, and just ran.”

Two people were treated at the scene but refused being taken to the hospital. Unfortunately, a resident’s cat died in the blaze.  One person is homeless.
