La Colombe Coffee Roasters Opens In Andersonville

LaColombeLa Colombe opened their first retail store at 955 W. Randolph in 2011. Since then they have opened two more, one in Wicker Park and the other here in Andersonville at 5158 N. Clark. Officially open for business last Friday, the neighborhood reception to the coffee roaster has been extremely positive.

Operations Manager Corey Polkow, who was the first employee hired here in Chicago by the company, has been working hard to get La Colombe opened here. He feels Andersonville was a perfect fit, “We were looking all over the city for another location until we came to Andersonville. People were bustling all day long in the area and we were really impressed with that. Our goal is to add value to the area, not take away from other businesses. We feel this location found us.”

The space is very open and has a unique feel. From the roomy interior to the exposed honeycomb-concrete ceiling, the store has an earthy vibe that brews up a variety of coffee and teas. This is their largest store in Chicago. Each of their 13 cafes is designed differently with their own special feel.

“Our plan is to have between five to ten stores in Chicago. We want to be a very neighborhood driven place where people are able to enjoy their coffee experience”, said Polkow. “When we opened the doors on Friday, it was like floodgates. Everyone wanted to say hi and introduce themselves. People have been just so welcoming.”

La Colombe also boasts about there philanthropy. They have many interesting partnerships including one in Haiti where they educate local farmers on running their businesses and how to become more sustainable. They also have a blend called Project Afrique, where $2 of every coffee purchase goes back into a multi-faceted organization that helps improve infrastructure and schools in African regions.
