CTA Shows Off New Buses That Begin Service in May

The CTA is currently testing out new buses on Chicago roads. The new vehicles which will start rolling out in April, officially start service sometime in May, 2014. The 300 new buses, part of a behind schedule CTA modernization program, will cost around $148 million.  You may remember that in 2012, the CTA promised a renewed fleet of buses by the end of this year.

According to  the Tribune The new 40 foot vehicles, made by Volvo’s Nova Bus, will have many upgrades including:

– lower emission diesel technology

– Multiple security cameras

– Driver safety barriers

– LED lighting

The buses will interestingly have a Chicago connection as well. All seats will be built in Humbolt park by Freedman Seating.
