Celebrate Local Art and Design In Andersonville This Weekend

artsWeekend2This weekend marks the 12th annual Andersonville Arts and Design Weekend on Clark St. Enjoy a self-guided art walk, participate in an interactive production of Alice in Wonderland, and pay tribute to the anchor home design stores that make Andersonville a shopping destination!

Friday night kicks things off as the Night of 100 pARTies. Stroll down Clark St. and pop in and out of parties in local shops, including the Andersonville Galleria, Early to Bed, pH Theatre, and Women and Children First. Over 35 businesses are participating in this year’s festivities.

On Saturday and Sunday, check out locally produced art in Andersonville shops in the Art Walk. The walk will include a wide variety of painters, sculptors, photographers, and more, ranging from emerging artists to Chicago favorites. The art walk runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day, maps are available at Clark St. retailers.

“I think it’s really awesome that we have several businesses who are featuring artwork by owners or employees of the business,” said Jessica Hammer, Director of Marketing for the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce.

But this weekend isn’t just about visual art, there are plenty of opportunities to experience performing arts in Andersonville. Follow a white rabbit to various locations throughout the neighborhood as part of Upended Productions’ immersive telling of the Alice in Wonderland story. Philadelphia Church, First Free Church, and pH Theatre Company all have multiple performances scheduled for the weekend, ranging from spoken word, to dance, to an improv musical!

Lastly, this weekend is about paying tribute to the home design stores that are synonymous with Andersonville. 48th Ward Ald. Harry Osterman has a number of events scheduled honoring businesses and their owners.
