Andersonville Kicks Off The Holiday Seasons With Vikings Abound

The Holiday Season is just around the corner and the Andersonville neighborhood is kicking it off in their own unique Scandinavian way!

Now invading the area for the third year, the annual Andersonville Viking Pub Crawl will be held on Saturday, November 16 from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. for Andersonville’s St. Morten’s Gås Day. The Holiday is meant to celebrate the goose when in early November the waterfowl are ready for slaughter. On St Morten’s Eve (November 10) they are roasted for a traditional dinner.

So if the vegetarians and animal lovers out there gasp at the idea of honoring geese with the idea of eating them, no worries at this event because it is all about the beer. Hosted by the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce (ACC), participants will receive a lanyard which earns them food and drink discounts at a variety of participating businesses. In addition, attendees will also get a free appetizer at check-in and a commemorative Viking Pub Crawl beer glass.

“Three years ago, we softly launched the idea of Viking Pub Crawl in lieu of the traditional St. Morten’s goose parade,” said ACC Events Manager Laura Austin in a release. “We were surprised by the number of people who showed up in full-on viking costumes for the event, and it has grown ever since.”

Ticket holder Check-in for the Andersonville Viking Pub Crawl will begin at 2 p.m. at the Swedish American Museum (5211 N Clark).  They can start the event off with a free 45-Minute Viking-themed workout at Orange Shoe Personal Fitness (5609 N Clark) or get right to the crawl at one of the participating businesses.

This year’s event will include Viking “Challenges” in which attendees snap photos while performing different tasks such as playing a video game at Replay Andersonville or braving the stage at The Call. They then share their triumphs and challenge completions via Instagram using the hashtag #AvilleVikings.

With over 200 people expected, Viking Pub Crawl participants are encouraged to get into the spirit by dressing in their viking best. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes.

Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased online at andersonville.org until November 16 at 12 p.m. or at check-in the day of the event if available. There is a discounted rate available for Groups of 10 or more.
