Tonight: Cash Mob Andersonville
When one thinks of flash mobs in Chicago, they may think of the sometimes malicous and violent flash mobs that occured downtown this summer. However, the concept is being used in a positive manner once again – this time as part of the “shop local” movement. Tonight in Andersonville, one lucky business will be the beneficiary of a cash mob in what we believe is the first event of it’s kind in the city.
The concept is simple: tonight between 5:45PM and 6PM people wanting to participate can gather at the intersection of Berwyn and Clark prepared to spend $20 at a local business. The exact business will not be announced until 6PM, at which point participants will head over to the announced destination business and each spend their $20, instantly injecting the business with locally spent dollars.
It is unknown who is organizing this specific event, but cash mobs have been popping up around the country recently. A blog dedicated to helping organize cash mobs has since surfaced, and the concept was also recently featured in the Wall Street Journal.
