Scheduled CTA Red Line Work Canceled Until Next Weekend

Edgewater CTA Red Line stations will remain open this weekend after scheduled work to perform track and signal construction in preparation for the Red and Purple Modernization (RPM) project was cancelled.

According to Alderman Harry Osterman, the work which would have halted service Jan. 17-19 at the Bryn Mawr, Thorndale and Granville Red Line stations from Friday 10 p.m  through Monday 4 a.m. will likely start next week instead.

The reason for the cancellation is due to an expected high wind advisory that would create unsafe conditions for the crews working on the project. If weather allows, the project will now begin Jan. 24-26 and then proceed each weekend thereafter for at least six weeks.

The Alderman added that trains at the affected stations during scheduled work times will travel on the Purple Line tracks as crews focus their attention on the northbound and southbound Red Line tracks.

The only Edgewater station to remain open will be at Berwyn. Those affected by the closures will have the option to board a CTA bus shuttle at the Loyola and Berwyn stations and travel via Broadway making regular stops at Bryn Mawr, Thorndale, and Granville.
