Property Tax Workshops for Businesses

On April 11th Cook County issued the new assessments for Lakeview township, which covers most of Edgewater and Andersonville. It is likely that the assessments for many commercial properties have gone up, but you (or your building owner) have up to 30 days to file for an appeal. By appealing, a building owner can potentially keep their assessed value and rent down for not only their building, but their neighbors.

The Andersonville Development Corporation is hosting a tax assessment workshop on April 19th that they strongly encourage business and commercial/mixed-use property owners to attend (anything non-residential). THe event will be hosted at Bethany Retirement Community (4950 N Ravenswood) beginning at 4PM. Members of a tax firm will be on hand to describe the appeals process and answer any questions. Cost is free.

In addition, in Edgewater the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce and ASCO will host property tax specialist Andrea Raila for “What’s Cooking with Cook County Taxes.” The event will be held on April 18th at 8:30AM at Ethiopian Diamond (6120 N Broadway). Raila is a tax consultant and former employee of the Cook County Board of Review. Cost for this event is $10.
