Calling all monsters, wizards and goblins. It’s Halloween time and Edgewater and Andersonville have some ghoulish events planned for everyone. Starting this weekend, there are several activities for kids, families and adults throughout the community.

Two of the most popular events are parades. This Saturday, October 28 is the 48th Ward Halloween Parade. Costumed participants will meet at Peirce Elementary School (1423 W Bryn Mawr) starting at 10 a.m. where they can participate in some spirited fun including dancing with Dream Big Performing Arts. At 11 a.m. the hike begins, winding through neighborhood streets to the final destination – Gethsemane Garden Center.

On Sunday, October 29  from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Jameson Loves Danger, Bow Wow Lounge and Empirical Brewery will host the annual Howl-O-Ween Pet Parade and Costume Contest. There is a $5 entry fee for the parade and all proceeds will benefit Felines & Canines. Registration starts at 1 p.m. and the fun will commence from then on. Pets that enter have a chance to win prizes for best costumes.

Tomorrow, Friday October 27, Andersonville will host a outdoor movie night double feature starting at 6 p.m. in the Chiro One parking lot at 5623 N Clark. The night will start with a screening of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Traditional movie theater concession snacks will be sold and costumes are strongly encouraged. Hint-hint- the Coffee Studio will be offering $1 Kids Hot Chocolate and Hot Cider to anyone with the password “Griffindor.” The event is sponsored by Andersonville Chamber of Commerce and Babes With Blades Theatre Company.

On Saturday, October 28 there will be trick-or-treating along the Andersonville strip  from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. The event, which is hosted by AlleyCat Comics and the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce, will also hold a costume contest for participants that check -in at AlleyCat Comics between 12:30 p.m. – 3 p.m. (winners announced at 3:30 p.m.). Participating businesses will have orange pumpkins taped on their doors.

On Sunday October 29, the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce will hold their final Dessert Crawl from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. There will be two curated routes along the strip, gumdrop mountains and peppermint forest. Each route has 11 stops at local businesses who will be offering small plate treats that will temp everyone’s sweet tooth. Both routes have vegetarian options.

In addition to these events, most of your favorite businesses in the area will have specific treats for their customers. Have a great and safe Halloween from Edgeville Buzz!
