Edgewater Restaurant Offers CPS Teachers A Special Discount During The Strike

CPS teachers have been on strike since last week forcing local schools to temporarily close. With the Chicago Teachers Union and Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot at a negotiation stalemate, at least one Edgewater area restaurant is extending a discount to CPS teachers and staff.

In a show of support for CPS employees that are affected by the strike, restaurants throughout Chicago are providing them with substantial discounts. Farm Bar Edgewater at 1133 W Granville is one of those businesses offering both teachers and staff  a 20% discount when they present their school ID.

The area eatery announced the discount on their social media October 17 as the teachers went on strike. According to them, they are in full support of Chicago teachers during the negotiation process.

“The CPS teachers and staff work so hard to educate and keep the children of Chicago safe,” said Amanda Fladung, who is the Events and Human Resource Manager for the company which owns Farm Bar. “So many of them have supported us over the years and now it was our time to give back. They are helping build a better future for the children in Chicago.”

Farm Bar Edgewater, which is well known for a menu that uses locally grown and sustainable ingredients, has regularly been giving back to the community through a variety of initiatives. In fact, tomorrow they will be having a day of community, friends, family and farm that will benefit Care for Real.

The restaurant will be donating 20 percent of all sales for the entire day on October 23 to the Edgewater food pantry. That includes both lunch and dinner. Previous fundraising events have supported other organizations as well including Hayt Elementary, Senn High School, and the Peterson Garden Project.

The company that owns Farm Bar Edgewater will be extending the special CPS teacher and staff discount at their other restaurants as well including Farmhouse Chicago (228 W Chicago), Farmhouse Evanston (703 Church St), and Farm Bar Lakeview (1300 W Wellington).
