Edgewater Car Wash Employee Shot and Killed Yesterday Afternoon

gunbox-300x180Police are looking for a man who shot and killed a 21-year-old employee of a self-serve car wash at the corner of Clark Street and N. Ridge Avenue in Edgewater around 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, according to a story in the Chicago Tribune. The shooting might be gang related, police said.

Devon Matthews was shot in the back while working at the car wash and later died at Presence St. Francis Hospital.

Police described the shooter as a black man in his 20s, with a dark complexion and hair in corn rows. He was wearing a white T-shirt under a black hooded sweatshirt. He was also wearing black jeans and white gym shoes.

Police said Matthews had ties to an Evanston gang that has a conflict with a faction of the Gangster Disciple gang from Rogers Park. At the time of the shooting, Matthews was being monitored electronically because of a 2014 arrest on marijuana and weapons possession. He was allowed to work at the car wash under court order, the Chicago Tribune said.
