Edgefest Kicks Off This Weekend, Proceeds Go To Multiple Area Organizations And Schools

As summertime heats up, so does the fun. Kicking off August, Edgefest returns bringing some added excitement to Edgewater.

Entering its sixth year, Edgefest will continue to offer all the great things from years past including 70 food vendors, beer/sangria, and two stages of live entertainment. The event will be held on Broadway Avenue between Thorndale and Ardmore from 12 p.m. – 10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5  and Sunday, Aug. 6.

This year the event will begin with a new pet parade feature on Saturday, August 5. Area pets will strut their stuff from the south stage at Ardmore and Broadway around 11 a.m., continue around the neighborhood on a designated route, and head back to the south stage.

After the parade, pets and their owners can compete in categories such as best costume, best trick, smallest/biggest pet and owner-pet look-a-like. NBC5 Chicago’s Natalie Martinez will emcee the parade and announce contest winners. $5 of each $10 registration fee will go to Care for Real to assist in its Pet Pantry.

Kids will also have many options at the fest. “The festival will also offer a kid-friendly atmosphere with games and bouncy houses,” said Katrina Balog, Executive Director of the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce. “EdgeFest will again have the Senator Heather Steans Kid’s Tent featuring Northside Catholic Academy, Edgewater Workbench, Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble, Learn More, Live More, and Chicago Friends School. The organizations will offer free kid’s activities like costume dress-up, face painting, mask-making and more!”

Edgefest will also feature the new J.C. Restoration Dunk Tank. Five bucks will give you three chances to dunk the lucky person in the tank. All funds raised will benefit GirlForward and the Women’s Soccer and Spirit Team from Loyola University Chicago.

Balog added,” I am most excited about the addition of several new local vendors including Fireside Restaurant and Swedish American Museum.”
