Alert for Dog Owners

Squirrel poison. Credit: Rogers Park groom shop

Dog owners should be on the alert that someone has recently been laying squirrel poisoning in alleyways of Edgewater and Rogers Park, according to an e-newsletter recently sent out by Edgewater’s Bark Bark Club (5943 N Broadway) and Rogers Park’s Rogers Bark grooming shop (1447 W Jarvis). According to the alert, several dogs have died due to eating the poison recently, including a client of Rogers Bark.

March is “Pet Poison Prevention Month” and pet owners should not only be aware of what squirrel poison looks like (photo to the left) but also be aware of other potentially dangerous toxins to pets. In this case, it is not known who is laying the squirrel poisoning, or whether or not it is being done maliciously but if you see the poison on the ground, we suggest you note the location and call 311. In addition, if your pooch is acting sick and you think it could be related to something it ate, make sure to contact your vet ASAP or call Animal Poison Control.
