With Mother Nature sending Chicago the typical new year cold, Andersonville’s first ever Hygge Fest is aiming to bring some warm Wintertime fun to the neighborhood.
The Andersonville Chamber of Commerce (ACC) will be putting on the event along with 40+ participating neighborhood business on February 2-3 and hours will vary by business. According to a press release from ACC, the term “Hygge” (hue-gah) is a Danish term for the ritual of embracing life’s simple pleasures surrounded by the warmth of family, friends, and community.
Participating area business will get into the hygge spirit by offering special shopping, dining, workshops and more next weekend. One of the most notable events during the celebration will be a 1-mile PJ Fun Run on Saturday, Feb. 2 which will be hosted by The SoFo Tap at 4923 N Clark. Participants can check in at 11 a.m. on the day of the event at The Sofo Tap and the run will begin at 12 p.m as runners (or walkers) will trot to the Andersonville Dala Horse and back. Tickets are $15 and will benefit Edgewater’s food pantry, Care for Real.
“Adopting the Hygge lifestyle is not only about enveloping yourself in coziness, but spreading warmth and comfort to others as well,” said ACC Community and Events Manager Laura Austin. “We hope this fest brings folks together in our vibrant neighborhood for cocoa, conversation and more.”
There will also be a multitude of other happenings during the Hygge Fest. On Saturday, February 2, First Slice Pie Café (5357 N Ashland) opens their doors to “Hygge Heaven,” a day of pie and knitting from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.; The Guesthouse Hotel (4872 N Clark) welcome acoustic duo Young & Gray to perform in the fireplace-lit lobby from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.; and Milk Handmade (5137 N Clark) will host textile artist Argaman & Defiance for a cushion crochet workshop from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with advance RSVP.
Sunday, February 3 highlights a Comfy Cozy Cocktail Class at KOVAL (5121 N Ravenswood) beginning at 11 a.m. with advance RSVP; a pop-up café at the Swedish American Museum (5211 N Clark) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and a pop-up at Martha Mae: Art Supplies and Beautiful Things (5407 N Clark) with Sir Dogwood offering a curated selection of cozy quality dog wear from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
