New Edgewater Public Mural To Include Faces of Local Residents, Yours Can Be Included Too

A new public mural art project that will adorn a high-profile wall along N. Broadway in Edgewater will consist of a collage of faces of everyday residents with the words “We All Live Here.” The artist will be holding a photo shoot this weekend so that your face can be included in the artwork as well.

The mural comes thanks to a grant from LISC Chicago and Groupon which was awarded to the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce in order to produce a public art piece in partnership with Rich Alapeck, founder of the We All Live Here project. The work will go up on the North-facing exterior wall of Moody’s Pub at 5910 N. Broadway sometime later this year.

All Edgewater neighbors are invited to participate in the photoshoot this Saturday, January 12 from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. at the Broadway Armory, 5917 N. Broadway. Those who attend will get a free professional portrait taken of themselves which be included in the upcoming mural.

Founded in 2015 by Alapeck, the We All Live Here project has gained much praise by being a symbol promoting both inclusivity and tolerance. According to the project’s website, the program teaches the importance of inclusivity and equality by developing programs for schools through their ACT program, which leverages art, community and technology. They also work with businesses by offering custom workshops, public art installations and volunteer opportunities using We All Live Here as the main theme.

To date the project has worked with over 90 Chicago-area schools and businesses to inspire individuals both locally and around the world. Alapeck is also currently working with with the 48th Ward to create We All Live Here signs for local schools.
