No Andersonville Midsommerfest For 2021

For a second year in a row, Midsommarfest has been postponed in order to prevent further spread of the COVID-19 virus.

The annual Summer festival was to take place June 11 – 13, 2021. Like last year however, the fun will have to wait. The Andersonville Midsommarfest is expected to return in 2022 from June 10 – 12.

“After much consideration, the staff and Board of Directors of the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce (ACC) have decided to officially postpone the 2021 Andersonville Midsommarfest,” said ACC Associate Director Laura Austin. “While we are encouraged by Chicago’s progress in keeping infection rates lower, we must continue to put the health and safety of our patrons, artists, performers, vendors and sponsors first. As we move forward with our plans to continue to showcase the best of Andersonville this summer and beyond, we want to say thank you to our businesses, residents and patrons of this phenomenal district.”

The second postponement of the street fair is a major setback for ACC. Like many organizations who hold such events, they rely on the profits obtained to help finance their efforts and programming throughout the year in order to create a vibrant community.

Last year they held a virtual Misommerfest to help raise some of the needed funds. The event, which included entertainment by longtime festival favorite 16 Candles and The Voice finalist Katie Kadan, was a hit.

Though there is no word yet if the ACC will hold the virtual event this year, there are many other ways to help support them including the Andersonville Restaurant Weeks which runs through March 25.
