Urban Orchard opens on Clark Street

Yesterday morning I stopped by Andersonville’s Urban Orchard for their official opening. While the approachable and enthusiastic staff were busy stocking and merchandising the sales floor, the store has come together nicely. The former Urbanest space at 5212 N. Clark St. is expansive and decidedly minimalist, which serves to house the Urban Orchard model ideally. Entering the store flooded with natural light, you’ll notice a wide selection of products from fresh produce, meats and cheeses to unique snacks and desserts. Refrigerated cases offer up locally produced specialties such as pierogi, which I picked up a package of. The right side of the space is occupied by a front counter acting as both the checkout area and a coffee bar serving up cappuccino, iced tea and more. Specialty pops and other drinks are also available cold or ready to take home. Art displayed and in some cases created by the staff decorates the seating area in the front corner of the shop. After spending time walking through Urban Orchard, the concept looks feels well put together and promising. The store appears to be shaping up to be a welcome offering on the busy and ever changing landscape of Clark St. Check out Urban Orchard’s Facebook page for more information on the store!
