Swedish Covenant Opens Mayora Rosenberg Women’s Health Center, #BreakingDownWalls

SCWHealth_Ribbon-CuttingSwedish Covenant has been making some drastic changes to fulfill the health care needs and improve access to quality health care for women residing on Chicago’s north side. They have recently opened the Mayora Rosenberg Women’s Health Center, which offers an array of services and has state of the art technology offering everything from regular check-ups, mammograms, breast health, nutrition, dermatology, cardiology and more.

To support these efforts a ‘Women’s Health Awareness Council’ was created with an all-star team of advocates that include Alderman O’Connor of the 40th ward, State Representative Greg Harris and Senator Heather Steans.

This fall they embarked an a social media campaign entitled #BreakingDownWalls. The campaign was intended to bring awareness and help eliminate the cultural, language and financial barriers that prevent women from receiving quality health care.”We want to empower women to make their own health a priority so that they may be active partners in their care, and that of their families,” states Jessica Jafari, the Manager of Social Media and Community Events.

A photo contest was launched and people in the community were asked to submit stories of inspiration and strength from the women we know and love and tag the photo with #BreakingDownWalls. The prize for the winner was a $500 visa gift card, while second place was a Swedish Skin Institute Pampering Pack. The contest was very successful and the voting for first place was very close. In fact, Swedish Covenant decided to issue a third place prize as well because of the tight race. In the end three winners were chosen, but all the stories were truly moving.

Our neighborhood is proud to have Swedish Covenant’s new center and bold initiative! You can check out the top three voted winners of the #BreakingDownWalls campaign here.
